Danilo Russo

He began his musical journey at the age of five, graduating with top marks from the prestigious S. Pietro a Majella Conservatoire of Music in Naples under the guidance of Maestro Francesco Salime. He is the recipient of numerous first prizes, both as a soloist and as part of chamber ensembles. Since 1999, he has maintained a fruitful and ongoing collaboration with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, participating in numerous recording projects and frequently working alongside internationally renowned soloists and conductors such as S. Bollani, W. Marshall, and Y. Temirkanov. Additionally, he has produced recordings for RAI television and radio broadcasts. Beyond his association with the Santa Cecilia Orchestra, he has collaborated with other esteemed musical institutions, including the Orchestra of the Teatro Cilea in Reggio Calabria, the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti in Naples, the Fondazione Orchestra of the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Calabria.

He is a member of the Saxophone Ensemble “F. Salime”, with which he has performed numerous concerts both in Italy and abroad, including appearances at the World Saxophone Congresses in Valencia, Montreal, and St Andrews. Recently, he performed as a soloist with a saxophone quartet and orchestra at the Harbin Concert Hall in China, as part of the World Saxophone Congress. Alongside his concert activities, he is also dedicated to teaching: some of his works and adaptations are published by Volontè & Co., wind orchestra compositions by Eufonia, while arrangements for saxophone quartet are published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing in Paris and Edition Impronta in Mannheim.

He has also held masterclasses at universities and conservatoires in Spain, Poland, and Romania, making a significant contribution to the promotion of saxophone culture and the training of young musicians at an international level. He is currently a professor of saxophone at the N. Rota State Conservatoire of Music in Monopoli (BA).
